Once again Sicily inspires the creativity of Dolce & Gabbana.
The exclusive use of basalt, a volcanic rock, is tied to the majestic Mount Etna and its landscape.
Phase 1
The Basalt rock is brought beyond the melting temperature (approximately 1400° C) in oder to ensure a suitable viscosity for yarning.
Phase 2
During the simplest phase, the thin fiber is yarned and woven into continuous filaments.
Phase 3
The Basalt texture is then soaked in resin. Wetting the fibers, the texture becomes darkened and brings back the black color of the original basalt rock.
Phase 4
To create the temples, the plate is removed from cold storage and seven layers are joined. After laying in a preformed mold, the plate is pressed for 20 minutes to create a temple-shaped plate. The plate is then cut with water and the result is a rough temple.
MOUNT ETNA
Located on the east coast of Sicily, Italy, Mount Etna (in some languages meaning "The Mountain of Fire," "furnace," or "chimney") is the tallest active volcano in Europe.
At 10,922 feet high, it is also the highest mountain in Italy south of the Alps.
As one of the most active volcanoes in the world, Mount Etna is almost constantly in a state of activity.
