Rated 5 out of 5 by ComputerDave Helped with my migraines!
My neurologist said I should look into getting sunglasses with polarized lenses. I figured that would mean dark tint as well (which has always been my preference), and was both surprised when she told me to get "pink" lenses rather than gray or blue/green. I thought she was kidding but she explained that pink cuts down on the blue and green wavelengths of light (since white light is made of all colors) which have been shown to be the harshest for people who have migraines. When I went to my local Sunglass Hut to look for options and I explained that I was a bit apprehensive because I didn't want to look like 1970s-era Elton John, the rep showed me the Maui Jim Manu sunglasses with the bronze (I believe the rep called it "Maui Rose" at the time) lenses. They've only got a moderate amount of tint (definitely much brighter than the dark lenses I've typically bought in the past), and they're not so pink that you expect to see a glittery unicorn at any moment. I bought them to give them a try and the next day I woke up with a migraine and saw that it had snowed... I had to drive to work with glare and reflection everywhere around me from the snow, and the shades helped turn what would ordinarily have been a painful eye-splitting commute into one with a more bearable dull headache instead. They're not perfect (apparently there's expensive dyes and calibration you can have done to prescription lenses to filter specific light out but it's super expensive), but they definitely helped - they're also roomy enough and fit comfortably so they didn't cause my migraine to make my head to feel like it was going to pop like a squished grape, like other glasses (that fit) have done in the past. Unfortunately I lost that pair a few months later, but I liked them enough (and they made enough of a difference) for me to buy another one within the week. (...I also think that seeing the world through the proverbial "rose-tinted lenses" may have helped to improve my mood and outlook a bit as well, but I can only go by what people have told me, so can't be completely sure...)
- Highly Recommend. ^_^
